VISITING GRANNY

VISITING GRANNY

“You know, Sara, my grandmother texted and asked if I would like to spend a few days with her.” “Would you like to come along?”
“Would your grandma like that, I’ve only met her once?” Sara asked.
“It’s no problem, she even asked if you could come too,” Rose said. “Her motto is: ‘The more souls, the merrier.’
Well…in that case, I’m not saying no.
After a journey of two and a half hours, Rose and Sara arrived at grandma’s bungalow.
Grandma was standing on the porch at the front door with the groceries.
Rose and Sara walked up the stairs and greeted grandma.
“Oh, that’s sweet of you,” said grandma when Rose took over the groceries from her.
Together they walked through the hall to a spacious kitchen, where Rose and Sara put the groceries on the kitchen table.
“You know what?” Grandma said, “if you show Sara to her bedroom, I’ll put the kettle on.”
The bedrooms were at the end of the hallway. The were spacious and comfortably furnished, with matching curtains and wallpaper.
Sara placed her luggage on the small table at the foot of the double bed.
“Let’s unpack later, we’re going to have tea first. Grandma has already set the table.”
While eating, Rose asked grandma, were you still successful with internet banking?’
“Yes, it was actually very easy.” “And I also bought something new on the internet.”
“What then,” Rose asked curiously
“A popcorn machine,” Grandma beamed with blushing cheeks.
Rose and Sara burst out laughing.
“You know, since I got the internet my life has changed.” “This way I can Skype with my sister who lives in Canada.”
Grandma continued. “We always wrote letters to each other, but having that kind of contact is much nicer.
“Not that I mind living alone.”
“You’re always so busy organizing activities, grandma, that you still have time to see us,” Rose said.
‘For you, always. Shall we make popcorn, I haven’t tried the popcorn machine yet?’
Sara said, “That’s fine, but I don’t know the recipe.”
“Neither do I,” said Rose.
“Don’t worry, Grandma said, I have the recipe.”
‘I find reading recipes on the internet difficult, especially the abbreviations in a recipe. For example, el or tl, said Mien.
Grandma laughed, “Here’s a list of abbreviations.” Grandma took a piece of paper from a drawer with the weight table/spoon sizes on it. She handed the paper to Rose and said, “the measurements on it are from a level spoon.” Rose replied, “I don’t know how to do that, a level spoon.” Granny replied, “We’re going to make popcorn anyway, and I’ll show you right away.”  Weight table
“Come on, she said, let’s clear the table and make some popcorn.”
