The Power of “Know Thyself”: How Ancient Philosophy Can Enrich Your Modern Life
The Power of Know Thyself – Seeing Yourself Through Others
In today’s busy world, we’re constantly told to “look within.” Yoga, meditation, silent retreats… they promise peace and self-knowledge. And yes, they can help. But I’ve always wondered—
can we truly know ourselves by only staying inside our own bubble?
The ancient Greek phrase “Know Thyself” was never just about looking inward. It began as know your limits, your place in the bigger picture. Later, Plato spoke of knowing your soul, and others believed self-knowledge meant freeing yourself from the noise of the world.
But here’s what I’ve come to believe with all my heart: We discover who we are not only in silence, but in connection.
When you meet someone with a completely different story, and you hear how they see themselves, something shifts. Suddenly, you see your own life in a new light. Your world gets bigger. Your understanding of yourself deepens.

This reflection has inspired me to imagine something more than a typical retreat. Not just a promise of calm or stillness, but a space for real dialogue and connection—a chance to know yourself, while seeing others too.
Would you want to be part of something like this? I’d love to hear your thoughts.
